In The Dark
While suffering continues
one has to wonder where
the TV cameras went to
that made us all aware.
Mass graves are still abundant
and Haitians want to know
while people die in silence
where did the whole world go.
We went to Massachusetts,
a Senate race was held
where voters pulled the levers in
the ways they were compelled.
That overrides starvation
that happens in the streets
of Haiti where so many are
still living under sheets.
We also had a snow storm
that kept us keyed for days,
we’re not real fond of weather
that interrupts our ways.
Schools were closed and we were forced
to cancel some events;
which overshadows people who
are waiting to get tents.
Some of us went on to sports,
the Super Bowl was played;
New Orleans won so now we had
to have a big parade.
The tickets cost an awful lot,
but gave us priceless times;
enjoyment gets our dollars while
the needy get our dimes.
You see the truth is we’ve moved on,
there’s many things at stake;
we watched reality too long
and now we need a break.
You’ll struggle with your hurricanes
while we go to the park;
our cameras will be over here
while you are in the dark.
